BPH-652 is a squalene synthase (SQS) inhibitor or dehydrosqualene synthase (CrtM) inhibitor. BPH-652 targets the biosynthesis of Staphyloxanthin (STX). The essential nature of STX is to act as a virulence factor with antioxidant properties; indeed, unpigmented microbes are more susceptible to host killing.
