In food industry, starch is used as a food preservative. Starch has extensive industrial use as an adhesive or bonding agent. It is also used in paper industry. Starch is used in the procedure to manufacture gypsum wallboards. Starch used in the laundry, also known as clothing starch. Glucose derived from starch may be fermented further to make ethanol or biofuel. Starch is also employed in the petroleum exploration industry. It is interesting to note that starch may be used to make hydrogen by making usage of enzymes.

It is stable and combustible. On decomposition it gives carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
