性质描述:

白色或红光黄色结晶粉末。熔点223℃，溶于乙醇、乙醚、冰醋酸，溶于稀碱呈紫色，微溶于水，难溶于苯。

生产方法:

由苯酐与邻甲苯缩合而得。将苯酐和邻甲酚混合加热熔化，在110℃加入无水氯化锌，并在110-115℃搅拌反应12-18h，通入蒸汽赶出剩余的邻甲酚。将所得粗品氢氧化钠溶液溶解，过滤。滤液用稀盐酸中和，得白色结晶即为成品。

用途:

酸碱指示剂，变色范围pH8.2（无色）-9.8（红色）。

o -甲酚酞是一种可逆的 pH 指示剂。反向通路(红紫色至无色)的动力学是缓慢的，因此使其成为检查波纹壁管中流动模式的适当分子。也用于通过 o -甲酚酞络合酮方法比色测定钙含量。在碱性条件 (pH 10-12) 下，钙与 o -甲酚酞结合，形成红色复合物，在 570-575 nm 处有吸光度。
