It has multiple mechanisms of action. Procarbazine inhibits protein, RNA and DNA synthesis in addition to being an alkylating agent.
Procarbazine is metabolized to azoprocarbazine either by cytochrome P450 enzyme and monoamine oxidase in an NADPH (nicotinamide adenine diphosphate) dependent or independent manner. It is considered neurotoxic.
